We love getting to know the people behind the amazing businesses in Enfield.
We asked Emma at ToGs by Emma (personalised Gifts and Clothing) our “5 Questions We Asked An Enfield Business”:
Hi Emma, What made you start your own business?
After making small gifts for friends and family and then them asking for me to make gifts for their friends and family my little side hustle began to grow, even though I loved working with the people I did, I hated my 9-5 job and my husband really saw this in me. My little side business was growing nicely and I had been asked by my sons American football team to start supplying their training/fan clothing. After a year of this my business was starting to really bloom and taking up more of my family time, this is when my husband said lets do this……. So the following week I handed in my notice and went full time with ToGs.
What does your business offer its customers?
I love the variety of my work, as everything I do is quite often one offs for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries etc. But also I work with lots of small businesses who want to get their logo onto as many things as possible. Where I don’t just offer clothing I can offer a variety of products to personalise at an affordable price with a minimum order quantity of 1!
Many of the items I provide have come from my customers asking “you probably can’t, but can you make……”
I can personalise so many different items with print, vinyl or embroidery including T-shirts, Hoodies, tablecloths, pads, clipboards, coats, dog collars, wine glasses and so much more.
What kind of customers are you looking for? Are there any types of businesses you’d like to collaborate with?
I am looking for small businesses and individuals that want something bespoke to their needs. I would love to collaborate with some more businesses that hold parties that I could supply personalised items regularly including Stickers, Dressing Gowns, Glasses, Cushion Covers, Bunting, Bags etc
What’s the toughest part of running your own business?
Managing everything!!! I not only deal with the majority of the enquiries, I deal with the designs, the ordering, the production and the invoicing. My day is non stop, some days it gets really tough and manic but I wouldn’t want to go back to my old 9-5 life ever again.
What piece of advice could you give to another business owner?
Make sure you get a great network around you. The majority of my business comes through recommendations. Join networking groups near you as they want the same as you – to be successful for themselves and their family. They can be part of your support network through the good times and the bad (as you will have both) I have made some amazing friends.
